Most camping tools stop where the pavement does.
Campground directories are built for reservations, hookups and star ratings. Fine for a numbered site with a host.
Dispersed camping is different: a dirt road, a stay limit by field office, access that changes with weather, and often no signal when you need the facts.
Wildroam is a map for that trip — agency-labeled pins, filters for access and vehicle, and conditions dated by travelers. Not a booking engine. Not a permit.
HOW WE WORK
Land first
Every pin carries an agency or community source — BLM, Forest Service, Park Service, state, or traveler-added. Colors and shields mark which agency to look up. They are not a permit and not a boundary survey.
Dated, not dressed up
Spots show a freshness score and last-confirmed date from stays and reports. No stays logged means nobody has stamped a traveler date yet — official listings can still be real. When we do not know, the map does not invent a rating.
Your list, not a feed
Log My roams where you’ve been. Add wishlist spots you want to go. Keep a rig profile for fit checks. No public feed of secret spots.
COMPARE
Where Wildroam fits
The Dyrt and Campendium are strong at developed campgrounds — reservations, amenities, and reviews of places with a host and a numbered site. AllStays packs dense RV utilities: filters, road services, overnight parking.
If you are booking a weekend at a state park or hunting full-hookup parks along the interstate, use them.
Wildroam is for the other kind of trip. No listing, no reservation, no host. Public land, current conditions, and the road in. Nothing here overlaps by accident — we are not trying to be a directory.

ON THE PINS
Labeled by land source
We mark who the place is associated with — not a full legal boundary layer for every unit. Treat it as a starting point, then check the agency.
BLM
Dispersed and official sites labeled from public and community sources.
USFS
Forest Service land and campgrounds where we have coordinates and a source.
NPS
Park Service places on the map — often permit or developed rules. Read the spot.
State
State-managed land where it appears in the data.
Other / community
Other official sources and traveler-added pins. Always verify access.
A map can ruin the places it shows.
We do not run a public feed of everyone's private finds. We require a field disclaimer at signup: we have not personally vetted campsites; you follow the law, check fire and flood risk, and own the decision in the field.
Wildroam is not a permit and not an agency. Conditions change. Check the current rules before you go.

FAQ
Straight answers
- Is it free?
- Yes. Browse the full public map without an account. Create a free account to log My roams, build a wishlist, report conditions and add spots. Pro unlocks full roam history and the been-there map filter.
- Do I need an account to use the map?
- No. Open Map and pan. Account is for contributing and keeping your list.
- Where does the data come from?
- Official and public datasets plus user-added spots, stays, reports and photos. Pins show source type and whether a place is marked official. Freshness comes from how recently people updated the spot.
- Have you vetted every campsite?
- No. Slate Wing Labs LLC does not personally inspect places through Wildroam. Many pins are imported or uploaded by users. You verify legality, access, safety, fire rules and road condition before you go. Signup requires accepting that field disclaimer.
- What is a roam?
- A roam is a place you’ve been — logged under My roams. Wishlist is separate: spots you want to go. Both live under Roams in the nav.
- Is offline download ready?
- Not as a full offline region pack yet. Use the map with a connection; offline packs are on the roadmap, not a claim for today.
- How is Wildroam different from The Dyrt or Campendium?
- Those apps are built around campground directories and reviews of developed sites. Wildroam is a land map for dispersed and public-land camping — agency source on the pin, dated field reports, and no public feed of private finds. Use them to book a numbered site; use Wildroam when there is no host.
- Can I camp anywhere the map shows?
- No. Rules vary by agency, unit and season. The map labels source and access type where we have it — it is not a permit and not a substitute for the current agency order.
- Does “confirmed” mean I can camp there?
- No. Confirmed means someone updated the pin — a stay, a report, or an import date. It does not mean the place is open, legal, or reachable today. You check the agency and the ground.
- Is this still early?
- Yes — coverage and features are still growing. Browse freely, log roams, and tell us what breaks. We ship fixes from real trips.
